Managing Director, Chicago
Having led financing and merger and acquisition efforts across a broad range of industries, and on both sides of the table, Greg Potts is a transaction specialist. His ability to understand both the strategic underpinnings of a transaction as well as the financial possibilities, has fueled his ability to work through obstacles and close deals, whether it is financing and fundings, business sales and purchases or turnarounds.
Greg began his career with Deloitte & Touche in Houston, working with SEC registrants in the banking, oil and retail industries. But it was with his transfer to New York and Deloitte & Touche Financial Service Center where he flourished. Moving to management consulting, Greg worked with some of the largest corporations and most sophisticated financial institutions in the world. Concentrating on mergers and acquisitions and strategy/corporate development, his clients included Citicorp, Bear Stearns, Bank of New York/Irving Trust, Motorola, and MasterCard, alongside numerous private equity funds and international and regional banks.
When communism fell across Eastern Europe and Russia, Greg relocated to Prague to devote his energies to establishing the Deloitte & Touche presence there and across Eastern Europe. It was a time of great change and involved extensive work in privatization, acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic transformations. While there, Greg led the first debt/equity swap in the modern history of the Czech Republic, working closely with the Finance Minister and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Greg was also instrumental in the development and planning for Deloitte & Touche's overall Eastern European and Russian operations.
Upon leaving Deloitte & Touche, Greg joined CNA Insurance as President of CNA Warranty Group where he was responsible for the formation and development of this subsidiary operation. Through Greg’s leadership, the CNA Warranty Group grew into an industry leader, increasing revenues to a quarter of a billion dollars.
Next, Greg joined Aon Corporation as CEO and President of Aon Home Warranty Services to lead the development and expansion of this newly acquired subsidiary. Over four years, Greg quadrupled revenues and established the company as an industry leader. With Aon, Greg was also responsible for the insurance underwriter's Specialty Division where he had overall executive responsibility for $150 million in revenue, including travel and accident coverages, Visa and MasterCard benefits and the management of numerous third party administrators.
Greg is a graduate of the University of Texas, where he earned a B.B.A. in International Business and a M.B.A. He also holds a C.P.A. certification and is a published author of professional magazine articles in both Europe and the United States, including a column in Bank Accounting and Finance in the 80's entitled SEC Requirements.
Recognizing the unfulfilled needs of the market, Greg founded Oak Street Advisors to bring "Big Company" financial services to mid-market companies. Greg not only brings extensive mergers and acquisition experience to Oak Street Advisors and its clients, but also extensive expertise in the strategy and corporate development behind the deal, that serves as the basis of successful transactions. Whether working on a business sale or purchase; or obtaining financing, Greg's work on both sides of the table insures access to the advice necessary to understand the complexities of corporate finance.
